Busan is known for its beaches, hot springs, nature reserves and events such as the city’s renowned international film festival held each fall. Busan is a good destination for those seeking a more laid back atmosphere than Seoul. Located at the southern tip of the Korean peninsula, Busan’s important port gives the city an international flair, with sailors from around the world trooping through and a growing number of tourists.
Known as ‘the museum without walls’, Gyeongju holds more tombs, temples, rock carvings, pagodas, Buddhist statuary and palace ruins than any other place in Korea.
Meanwhile, Andong is the self-proclaimed “Capital City of Korean Spiritual Culture”, having maintained aspects of the traditional culture of Korea throughout the past 2,000 years. Over 280 cultural assets are scattered around the city.
Andong’s international claim to fame comes from having been visited by Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. So the story goes, the Queen asked to be taken to the most Korean place in Korea. She got taken to Andong.
